Romans 2:17-3:8, The Jews and the Law

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

Although everyone is a liar, let God be proved true...
— Romans 2:4b

NL Daily Devotion for Tuesday, May 21, 2019

by Daniel D. Maurer, Clergy Stuff

We’re all liars. And, no, I’m not talking about the times when we fib about something. And I’m also not talking about the times when we blatantly lie.

We’re liars in that we continually re-live the lies found in the very fabric of existence. We lie to ourselves about the power of money, about the power of power.

We lie to ourselves when we fear death, even though we as believers have been given the gift of release from that fear of death. We grow anxious over things that may not really matter very much at all in the long-run.

Thanks be to God, though, that those lies are confronted. Thanks be to God, that we are daily reminded of the truth. That God is love. That God is forever.

Amen and amen again.
