Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today
NL Daily Devotion for Thursday, May 30, 2024

We all have more than one parent. Whether they are active in our lives or not, we have two parents who caused our physical birth, but may have countless other people in our lives who cared for and nurtured us in our lives—adoptive parents, in some cases, or foster parents, neighbors or church members who really looked out for us, special teachers who had an impact on who we are. It is a community of adults that really raises us to be who we are.
Then there is God, our ultimate parent, who, in their unfathomable love, adopts us as their own children—God, who we are invited to call “Abba” or “daddy/mommy” in a most intimate way. And as adopted children of God, we are all siblings of one another, called into the enormous and loving family of all creation. We rejoice together and we suffer together and God holds and comforts us in all that we experience.
Do I feel a part of the family of all creation? Why or why not? What does this mean to me?
