Psalm 131, A Quiet Soul

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; my soul is like the weaned child that is with me.
— Psalm 131:2

This is such beautiful imagery. For some reason, I get a flash of my childhood home on one of those nights when we had a fire in the fireplace or when I was curled up with my dad and my younger brother on the couch and my dad was reading to us. There is something lovely about those moments of deep, internal quietness of the soul. How beautiful to feel as a child in the presence of all love and safety and peace. How awesome to read this deeply maternal image of God. Even when these experiences are momentary, they affect me profoundly, and fill me with gratitude.

What moments in my life does this passage remind me of?
