I always believe Jesus was a little mean in this story from the Bible. I mean, come on, they’re your brothers and sisters and mother!

I get along fairly well with my brother. He’s an artist and I’m a writer, so that creative drive we have in common. But he lives his life fairly different than I live my own.

Some people don’t get along with their siblings. Serving as a pastor for 10 years led me to believe that it’s about 50% of families that live this way. Strife, it seems, is everywhere.

Of course, this isn’t Jesus point here, but that relationships between human beings are always bigger than simple bloodlines.

I must agree. Yet, I still cannot wonder how this would be applied in the world if we all thought of each other as brothers and sisters.

Then, we wouldn’t have to necessarily like another person, but acknowledge that they, too, are kin.

That we are all kin. Amen.
