What it must have been like to be there in those early, heady days of the Church! The gospel of Jesus washed over Jerusalem like a tsunami, signs and wonders were performed by the Apostles, people were healed, thousands of believers were added to the burgeoning Body of Christ.
I wish I had that more of that joyous energy in my faith. The times I most feel it are when I’m doing things like this—digging into the Word and reflecting on it in writing. It also happens when I am working with children, having discussions about justice, or taking actions on behalf of my neighbor. These are healing activities for me, curing my sickness of self-direction, isolation and inaction.
That healing energy spills over into every area of my life and others notice. Joy in my Christian faith is as infectious as the diseases it combats.
Inspiring God, heal me of all that keeps me from sharing the boundless joy of life in the Spirit.
