1 Thessalonians 1:1-10, Thanks to Thessalonica

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

We always give thanks to God for all of you and mention you in our prayers, constantly remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labour of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

My mother instilled in me a helpful habit of always remembering to say thank you for others who did something for you, for your community, or your family. Whether it would be in the form of a thank you card, an email, or simply calling them up to say thank you.

As I write this, the United States (and the world, indeed) is caught up in the upswing of a global pandemic. I think of all the doctors, nurses, and other vital jobs people do where they are putting their health—and in some cases their lives—on the line to try to stem this disaster from being spread any further.

How often is it that we say thank you to a delivery driver from Amazon, or even a police officer as she drives through your neighborhood? One thing this pandemic has taught me is that we should never again take for granted all the things people will do to make a difference for others’ lives.

God, thank you for all those around me who are working in difficult situations. Amen.
