Psalm 86:8-13, A Psalm, Undivided Hearts

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

Teach me your way, O Lord,
that I may walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart to revere your name.
— Psalm 86:11

NL Daily Devotion for Monday, March 16, 2020

by Daniel D. Maurer, Clergy Stuff

Artists, musicians, sculptors, playwrights, and a multitude of creative-types yearn to best incorporate the dichotomous nature of the human psyche into their works. Even within the stories of the Bible, you experience how people throughout the ages coped with the hand life dealt them.

The big point is that none of them had lives that were wholly black and white. No. They all lived within the grays.

To live a life for God, undivided is no easy task. I think it begins first with the conviction and understanding that we play a part within the drama in life.

The only question remaining is what that part will be and how will we affect others positively.

Some days, the answers will be black, others white. The grays dominate though!

O God, create in me a whole and new heart, only devoted to you. Amen.
