Psalm 62, Quieting the Soul

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

For God alone my soul waits in silence, for my hope is from him.
— Psalm 62:5

NL Daily Devotion for Friday, March 6, 2020

LIFE IS SO LOUD! Kids and jobs and houses and cars and pets and responsibilities, obligations, commitments, appointments, deadlines, relationships and I could go on! It can be overwhelming. Crushing. Deafening. And where does my help come from?

I am so taken by this phrase: “For God alone my soul waits in silence.” In silence. How often do we take time to be silent? To wait with patience for God, in the knowledge that in God there is hope in the face of whatever weighs us down?

Personally, I am not very good at this. It is a great struggle to be still. But in those moments when I persevere, the stillness is healing, and my hope is restored.

Gracious God, quiet my heart, soul, and mind, that I might better connect with you. Amen.
