I think my dog loves to sleep as much as I do. I mean it . . . I just LOVE sleeping, crashing out in my warm covers and allowing the bliss of dreams come upon me. Our two cats love to sleep too, but I don’t know if they really LIKE it as much as I do or my dog does.

To be awake in the world, though, means that we choose to get out from the comfort of our cozy ways. Much like getting out of bed to face the world on its own terms (and weather, here in Minnesota!), we are called to live for God, because our God lives for us.

Perhaps this is something that the Psalms do better than anything: they cover all the topics within the human experience that we might see that God, too, is there within those moments.

Awake, my soul! Stay awake to hear God’s word of freedom and victory! Amen.
