Jesus showed, once again, that he not only was exceedingly clever with the answers he gave to the authority figures during his time, but he also showed that it’s often those who are in authority who challenge the prophets of any day and age.
It’s true, I’m a rebel. The knee-jerk reaction I generally have to anyone who tells me to do something a different way than I have been doing it is one of contempt and resentment. I’ve gotten it mostly under control now, though, which is a good thing, because sometimes authority is a good thing to follow.
However, this story (for me, anyway) is more than a point of pride that I have for the Son of God that he, too, was a rebel. It’s also the aspect I also need correction to realize that I’m not God! I don’t have to be in control of everything all the time. And that in 100 years none of us are ever getting out alive!
To lean on Jesus’ rebellion is to accept his own authority. Now how’s that for irony?!
Do you label yourself a rebel, a leader, or a follower? What about a mix of all three?
