Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today
NL Daily Devotion for Friday, March 29, 2019
by Daniel D. Maurer, Clergy Stuff
How often do we say one thing, but do another? If you’re like me, it happens fairly frequently.
The key encouragement I can derive from this reading, though, is that what really matters is recognizing God’s work, even if it’s done in places where you wouldn’t think. Because, after all, that was the original context in which Jesus found himself. He was criticizing those leaders who did not recognize John the Baptist’s leadership, while even the tax collectors and prostitutes (those seen outside the law, and also certainly from whom no authority could be provided for their witness) could plainly see that John the Baptist’s work was that of God’s.
It also means that doing the right thing is even more important that what you say you’re going to do!
Thank God for encouragement in strange places!
Thank you God, that you have revealed your will in the nooks and crannies of many places where others might not look. Amen.
