How could you fail to perceive that I was not speaking about bread?

You might be surprised to discover that even biblical scholars need to think extra deeply about some of Jesus’ sayings and teachings.

Take today’s devotion, for example. I can imagine that the disciples were left just as confused as I am when they heard their Lord try to explain to them that, no, he really wasn’t talking about a literal “bread” the whole time anyway!

“That’s why I was talking about yeast! And the scribes and pharisees! Geez!”

Okay, Jesus.

Isn’t it possible that scripture serves to confuse us so that we actually go out and seek to find the “true meaning”? Isn’t it helpful that we can seek our own meaning in the words Jesus spoke so many thousands of years ago?

It is helpful, for me at least.

What about you? Does scripture sometimes confuse you so, that you go out to seek what the real meaning was? Can there be more than one interpretation?
