Questions emerge from various places: curiosity, genuine inquisitiveness, information seeking, naivete—all innocent or at least neutral places. And then there’s questions like these that Mark shares, questions that are anything but innocent, questions that carry with them judgement, ridicule, and narrow-mindedness. The ones asking these questions about Jesus are not really interested in the answers. They asked these questions to raise a point, to sway their audience in their favor, which meant against Jesus.

Have you encountered these kinds of questions from people? Since you are in the work of ministry, I’m guessing you have. And if we’re being honest here, we’ve probably asked these kinds of judgmental questions ourselves.

Questions can become and easy, if not lazy, way of hiding preconceived opinions, or outright ridicule.
