Luke 17:11-19, Jesus Heals

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan.
— Luke 17:15-16

NL Daily Devotion for Saturday, February 8, 2020

by R. Fergus Moir, Clergy Stuff

Oh, and another thing—he was a Samaritan. In other words. Jesus healed a whole bunch of folks who were Jews like him, and none of them even bothered to say “thanks.” Whereas this guy, a Samaritan, one of the people the Jews detested because they didn’t worship God the “right way,” comes back and praises God at the top of his lungs before dropping to the ground to bow at Jesus’ feet in gratitude.

I wonder how often I take God’s love and grace for granted because I have been a Christian my whole life. I’ve always known deep down that God calls, nurtures, heals, embraces. Do I stop to express my gratitude? I mean really express it? Praising God with a loud voice? Bowing down at Jesus’ feet and thanking him? Do I have the humility to recognize the incredible love God shows me every day?

How will I take time to show my gratitude for God today?
