Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today
“Yet all these, though they were commended for their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had provided something better so that they would not, without us, be made perfect.”

Faith is sometimes hard! I mean, really, really hard.
It seems like, often, we do not receive the promises of God, and we end up wondering whether the whole thing is just a bad deal no matter what way we look at it.
I keep a strange schedule. It’s mostly of my own making. Because I’m a freelance writer, often I will stay up to 2 or 3 in the morning, either plunking around or working on my next project. It’s a quiet time and I appreciate that.
In any event, sometimes I’m left in these quiet times wondering whether God exists or (if God does) hears us at all. The aspect of faith which is hopeful, though, is that any doubts you currently have do not make up the whole of your relationship with the Almighty.
And thank goodness! God has patience with us. Perhaps it’s high time that we have patience with God, and patience with ourselves.
God, grant me patience, endurance and perseverance. Amen.
