The night sky is a blessing many cannot see in its true form. They call it "light pollution" and many cities suffer from it. We're missing out, really—a true, dark sky filled with stars is a spectacle for everyone to see.
You gotta wonder how Abraham (oops, Abram) came to believe. Mostly because he had to trust God when all the evidence would state that he was to be barren.
In the ancient world, children (and many of them) were a blessing. It assured not only that your family line would continue, it meant that it was easier to survive in your old age. They didn't have a social system like we do today and people took care of their elders.
The gift of trusting God is that we can allow things to fall out of our sense of control. God's the one in charge of everything. Including us.

After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, ‘Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.’ But Abram said, ‘O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?’ And Abram said, ‘You have given me no offspring, and so a slave born in my house is to be my heir.’ But the word of the Lord came to him, ‘This man shall not be your heir; no one but your very own issue shall be your heir.’ He brought him outside and said, ‘Look towards heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.’ Then he said to him, ‘So shall your descendants be.’ And he believed the Lord; and the Lord reckoned it to him as righteousness.
