The truth can be hard to swallow. In fact, most people react pretty negatively to it when it goes against what they want to believe, or do. That’s why people have always persecuted prophets, doing whatever they can to silence the voice of truth. But like Stephen, we are called to speak that truth to those who hold all the power and wealth, who are agents of oppression and destruction. The question is: Where am I, myself, reluctant to hear the truth that might demand I change the way I am living? How do I ignore, diminish, or even harm the prophets bringing this uncomfortable truth to light?
Loving God, help me to see and to accept your truth, and be willing to change in order to be a channel for your love and power in the world. Amen.
