Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
— Acts 2:42

NL Daily Devotion for Friday, September 11, 2020

Oh, if only we could be in community like this again! Living together, eating, learning, praying together in close proximity! We, who are created by God to be in community, suffer dearly when we are too long separated one from another.

And yet, in the midst of our physical separation, we continue to be community. Continue to devote ourselves to God’s word and to prayer, to fellowship and even the breaking of the bread. It looks different. Technology is involved where it’s available. The body of Christ is reaching and striving to find new, vital, life-giving ways to connect.

And God is in the midst of us all. God, for whom physical barriers are no barriers at all. God, for whom distance is irrelevant, for whom time is malleable, for whom even death is not insurmountable. We are not alone. We are never alone. We sit among those first converts, devoted to the word and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

Who can I reach out to in fellowship today?
