Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today
NL Daily Devotion for Friday, November 29, 2019

Ritual is powerful. It connects us, give us identity, grounds us in our faith. For King Josiah’s people, the reinstatement of the observance of Passover after a century or more was a reminder of who the Israelite’s were and, more importantly, whose they were. They needed to remember what God had done for them—freed them from slavery in Egypt and given them their own land.
When we gather to sing and pray together, to listen to God’s Word, and to share bread and wine in Holy Communion, we are drawn into community. We are reminded who we are and whose we are. We are fed spiritually, refreshed and restored to go out into the world and live our identity as children of God in all we do and say.
