It’s amazing to me when certain people completely misinterpret the meaning of the rainbow flag. The rainbow is meant to symbolize the celebration of diversity—all diversity. Often when people see a rainbow, they think, “Oh. That means gay.”

Yes, it does, but it also means straight, transgendered, cis, or non-conforming as well!

I don’t know of many churches today who would define themselves as “unwelcoming.” Being welcoming in churches seems to be all the rage today. More often though, the only reason to add the catchall phrase to a congregational mission statement is so that others will be welcomed in to “be more like us.”

A Good News for some is never a Good News for all. If the Gospel of Jesus Christ was only for those who think and act like us, what a dull and boring existence heaven will be.

I choose to believe that God’s love is unconditional, unbounded, and free. It’s high time that we act like this as we exit worship just as much as we do when we enter and “welcome others.”

How do you show that God’s Good News is for all, everyone?
