Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today
“Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.”

I find it interesting that Paul talks about love as a kind of debt.
This whole passage is about how to get along with the powers that be. Follow the rules, pay your taxes, etc. etc. etc. Don’t owe anyone anything. Except love. Love is the debt that can never be paid in full and forgotten about. Love is the thing we will always owe to God and neighbor.
What’s amazing about that is, when we pay on our debt of love, it fulfills all our other obligations! Love is an action, not a feeling. When we act in love, we automatically follow the ten commandments, and live in the way Christ calls us to.
How many ways have I shown my love for God and my neighbor today?
