Psalm 32, The Joy of Forgiveness

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

Happy are those whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered.
Happy are those to whom the Lord imputes no iniquity,
and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

Does any of us ever fully realize what a great gift it is? What great gift, you ask?

Forgiveness.

Forgiveness is not the defeat it seems to be on its front cover.

I dunno if it’s like that for you, but for me, forgiving another seems like I’m “giving in.” Either that or I want to make it extra big-hearted of me that I’m taking the time to forgive you of your GREAT iniquities you have TRESPASSED upon my MIGHTY SOUL!!!

In all seriousness, though. Forgiveness should be done as humbly as the other person probably already feels coming to you to ask forgiveness.

And when it all happens . . . new life. For both.

Now, that’s a gift!

Thank you, God, for the gift of forgiveness! Amen.
