Psalm 19, Heavens Tell the Glory of God

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
— Psalm 19:14

I should start every devotion with this verse. Although it would be the words of my keyboard, not my mouth. As I read and reflect on each Bible passage, I would do well to consciously stop and invite God into the process. I don’t often do this. Although I have often said that the Holy Spirit lives in the space between my brain and my fingers—I can’t count how many times I’ve been surprised at what I’ve written, the way what I thought I wanted to say came out a little differently or went a completely different direction. I’m pretty sure in those moments, God is having a good chuckle at my expense.

No matter what we do in life, whether it’s literally speaking or writing our meditations on God’s word, or teaching or managing or serving or building or any other kind of work, we would do well to consciously stop and invite God into the process. There is nothing we do that can’t be done better with God’s help.

Does it occur to me to invite God into my daily work? Why or why not?
