It makes me smile to think that I am one of God’s “works.” It makes me smile even more to think that so is my cat, Jack-Jack. When I think about how Jack-Jack (or “Double J” or “JJ” as he is variously called) gives thanks to God, it leads me to all the ways the very cat-ness of his being is a testament to God’s love and power. Everything about JJ is a work of art—the shape of his back when he sits, the big, round, golden eyes that quickly fill to almost black when he’s playing, the perfect little curl at the end of his tail when he’s perched on the edge of the counter. Everything about him is a marvel of engineering—his powerful claws, strong arms, incredible balance. Everything about him is love and joy and spirit—the way he pounces, climbs, and especially the way he curls up onto my chest and purrs so loudly I swear the neighbors can hear.
All God’s works give thanks to God and bless God for God’s creating and sustaining them. And I give thanks to God for Jack-Jack.
Where do I see God in God’s various “works” in creation?
