Psalm 131, Psalm of Ascents, 2020

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a weaned child with its mother;
my soul is like the weaned child that is with me.
— Psalm 131:4

Feminine images of God find a niche in Holy Scripture more than you realize. Today’s daily reading for the Narrative Lectionary is one such case. It’s a description of a person’s intimate relationship with God.

Not too needy, but knowing who the true love always is.

Like a mother and a child who grows, so too our lives depend on God and we are beckoned to never forget the intimate relationship at the center.

God. Mother. Child.

Love, pure love.

Remind me of your love this day, O God, O holy Mother who is God. Amen.
