Psalm 118:19-24, The Rejected Stone

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

The stone that the builders rejected
has become the chief cornerstone.
— Psalm 118: 22

NL Daily Devotion for Monday, April 22, 2019

As any construction contractor will tell you, a building is only as good as its foundation. If the foundation is bad, the building will fall. It’s not a matter of if, but when.

So how does this connect with us? Well, Jesus!

Jesus was the foundation for humanity that was rejected, but nonetheless became the chief cornerstone of humanity’s foundations. That doesn’t mean that, somehow, Western culture is superior to everything else. I believe what it means is that what Jesus stood for—compassion, grace, forgiveness, righteousness—these things will be either the rising or the falling of humanity.

How much responsibility do WE have with the quality of foundation we set for our world?
