What shall I return to the Lord for all his bounty to me?

No amount of payment would be enough for God’s bounty to me. Just yesterday as I was out for a walk I could not help but think about how good my life is—how truly happy I am in spite of the challenges of the last year and the presenting difficulties I’m dealing with even now. I am ridiculously grateful for all the ways God has shown up in my life. What can I possibly offer God in response?

The psalmist will “lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord” and “pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of al his people.” It’s a start, I guess. For me, that means giving service within a faith community and in the wider church community. But it’s more than that. It’s going outside my comfort zone and finding ways to be the church in the world, to be the hands and feet of God in working for justice, in bringing the reign of God to the here and now. Truly, it’s the least I can do.

How do I show my gratitude to God in concrete ways in my life?
