Psalm 108:1-4, Heart Music

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make melody. Awake, my soul!
Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn.
— Psalm 108:1-2

NL Daily Devotion for Saturday, January 11, 2020

by R. Fergus Moir, Clergy Stuff

The Psalms are meant to be sung, and this one makes me want to burst out singing! Awake, my soul! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn! It puts me in mind of a gorgeous purple-peach sunrise on a winter morning, with branches blanketed in snow, when the world is silent yet filled with the beautiful song of color and light, of tree and cloud, of earth and sky. My heart and soul resonate in moving harmony, and I am assured of the presence of God in all of creation. My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast!

God of Song, place your melody in my heart, that I may sing your presence to the world. Amen.
