Matthew 24:29-51, Teachings of Jesus

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
— Matthew 24:35

NL Daily Devotion for Tuesday, March 28, 2023

by R. M. Fergus, Clergy Stuff

I find this a great comfort. Sometimes the world just feels too chaotic and precarious. Overwhelm dogs my steps. Despair slips insidiously, almost unnoticed, into those moments between the busyness that makes it possible for me to push aside the realities of injustice, inequity, and environmental destruction in my community, my nation, and the world. I am left wondering where God is, when I allow myself the moments to wonder. But I am reassured by Jesus that nothing is too much for God. That God is in the midst of all of it. And ultimately, that the imperfection of humanity and the havoc we create is not the final word for me or the world. All of this will pass away. But Jesus’ words of love, justice, comfort, and abundant joy are the things that will endure. Thanks be to God.

What gives me comfort in the midst of overwhelm?
