Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today
NL Daily Devotion for Saturday, March 23, 2019
by Daniel D. Maurer, Clergy Stuff
My brother is a professional artist. (Some of his artwork can be found here, if you’re interested.) Recently, he’s begun a new thematic series based off of old photographs our parents had taken of us when we were kids.
If you can gather one basic message or thematic thrust when you look at these old pictures, I suppose it would have to be described as “innocence.”
Children are fully dependent on their parents to love and care for them. Children never take themselves too seriously. Kids know how to laugh, and know that a hug can cure any bout of sadness.
Jesus beckons us through the ever-living Word of God to live as children in this sense.
And, for me, sometimes that’s the hardest thing in the world to do.
Grant me grace, dear Lord, to lead a life in child-like wonder of your infinite love. Amen.
