One of the first things I recall learning from Sunday school was that the early Christians were persecuted for their beliefs. Mind you, I grew up in the United Methodist Church, so I suppose its theological roots might have had something to do with it.

But persecution was real for those early Christians. And today even, too.

And no . . . I don’t mean those Christians who politicize their so-called persecution of not being able to say “merry Christmas” anymore.

I’m talking about adhering to the radical love of Jesus Christ. If you apply that love to its maximal, no doubt you WILL face persecution.

Today’s lesson teaches us that we need not be afraid. For when the time comes we are to testify, God will give us words of strength and meaning.

Thank you, God, for being there or me when the pressure is at its highest. Amen.
