Relationships are sacred. Deep and meaningful relationships between people are not just nice, they’re essential to our humanity. God is a relationship (the Trinity) and created us in God’s image, after all. So no matter what the relationship, it’s not something to be held cheaply, as the Pharisees in this passage seem to be doing.
Navigating any relationship takes work. It takes vulnerability, sacrifice, and a deep desire for the other’s well-being. Such relationships are truly gifts from God, and God is right in there with us.
Gracious God, thank you for the many beautiful relationships in my life. Amen.
