Awe is a powerful thing. It reminds us that we are part of something far bigger than ourselves. It shakes us out of our ego-fueled tunnel vision and reconnects us to the world around us. It gives us genuine perspective about the things that truly matter—not the minutia that we of often allow to rule our lives, but life on a staggering, incomprehensible scale, a God-sized scale.
These first followers of Jesus have never seen anything like what he can do. Make a paralyzed man get up and walk again? I feel like their response, “We have seen strange things today,” is a huge understatement. We, too, are invited to experience moments of awe in the love of God through Jesus. If we only open our eyes and hearts, we are sure to see God’s presence and action, and experience the awe that makes life truly meaningful.
When was the last time I felt truly awed by something?
