Luke 2:8-20, Shepherds Visit

The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

Everything changed. And nothing did. After experiencing the mind-blowing miracles of an angel chorus and the infant son of God, the shepherds went back to work. They returned. Oh, sure, they didn’t do it quietly. I can imagine them running punch-drunk through the streets of Bethlehem, shouting their joy to everyone who might hear them in the middle of the night. But they still went back out into the fields, back to being shepherds. Still, I’m pretty sure those shepherds were never the same again. They brought those miracles back into their daily lives and lived in hope and expectation that God’s promises would be fulfilled.

A few days or weeks from now, we need to be the shepherds, returning from the wonder of Christmas to the fields of our lives, glorifying and praising God for all we have heard and seen! May the miracle of God’s greatest gift uplift and sustain you each and every day.

How can I carry the joy of Christmas into the rest of my year?
