Isaiah 43:25—44:5, God Forgives Sins

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

For I will pour water on the thirsty land,
and streams on the dry ground;
I will pour my spirit upon your descendants,
and my blessing on your offspring.
— Isaiah 44:3

NL Daily Devotion for Saturday, February 1, 2025

by R. M. Fergus, Clergy Stuff

I am thirsty for hope these days. I look at what is happening in our national political discourse, the breakdown of civility and the outright refusal to work together, the inevitable consequences of climate change, ongoing conflicts throughout the world… So many people are suffering because of the choices of a very few people in whose hands the majority of money and power are concentrated and who insist on clinging to that money and power at any cost—even the cost of human life.

Are these things a punishment for our collective sin? I don’t think God works that way. All I can do is hang onto hope in this promise of blessing, and work to bring that hope—through action—to others.

Gracious God, sustain me in my struggles today, and remind me of the promise of restoration in you. Amen.
