Isaiah 42:10-20, A Hymn of Praise

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

I will lead the blind by a road they do not know, by paths they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I will do, and I will not forsake them.
— Isaiah 42:16

This isn’t to say that God just makes everything easy for us. It just means that God is with us, vitally present, leading and guiding us in places we otherwise could not go on our own. All of us face barriers, whether literal disabilities like blindness or mental illness, roadblocks we’ve built from our own brokenness, or oppressive societal norms or government policies. God calls us in spite of those barriers, calls us over and through them, and promises to lead us all the way to liberation. It takes a lot of trust to just let go and let God lead when we don’t know exactly where we’re going or how we’re going to get there. But God promises not to forsake us, no matter what.

What barriers do I need God’s help to surmount?
