Hosea 3:1-4:19, God’s Love for and Condemnation of Israel

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

Like a stubborn heifer,
Israel is stubborn;
can the Lord now feed them
like a lamb in a broad pasture?
— Hosea 4:16

Seriously, how much can one book of the Bible talk about Israel’s lack of commitment?

It’s like, yeah, we get it; Israel was kinda like a whore. If that seems shocking to you that I just wrote that, well, it’s in the Bible too, exactly using that term!

However, one inkling is worth thinking about from today’s reading: that we, too, often go after other “loves" in our lives as well. And within it all, God is the one calling us back.

Lord, you continue to stay steadfast, even though my spirituality wanders. Bring me back to you. Amen.
