Hebrews 12:25-29, Rejecting God’s Grace, Part II

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks, by which we offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe; for indeed our God is a consuming fire.

The Good News in today’s daily reading for the Narrative Lectionary is that God never turns away from us. That is to say: there is always the possibility of turning toward the grace which was made manifest in our very existence.

I think, especially today, that the word “awe” is particularly applicable. It’s easy to stand in awe in light of what the Creator of the Very Universe has done for us. We stand in this place, because there is no other place to stand.

For if we remove ourselves from the awe, all we’re left with is questions with no directions. Notice that I did not write “answers,” Often we are not provided with simple answers, but we are provided with direction.

God gives us the direction and orients our lives that we have the opportunity to walk alongside the Creator.

Within our daily existence, God, direct us to you, amen.
