Genesis 6:9-22, Noah Pleases God

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation; Noah walked with God.
— Genesis 6:9b

NL Daily Devotion for Saturday, September 14, 2019

by R. Fergus Moir, Clergy Stuff

I would hardly describe myself as “blameless.” In fact, later on in the story, we find that Noah isn’t all that perfect himself. But what distinguished Noah from all the unrepentantly evil human beings around him was that he “walked with God.” Now that’s something I can aspire to.

What does it mean to walk with God? For me it can be quite literal—I can invite God with me everywhere I go, into every aspect of my life. I can keep God at the center rather than off to the side somewhere until I need something. Do I do this perfectly? No. But I know that every time I invite God to walk with me, God will.

Ever-present God, please stay beside me on my journey through this day. Amen.
