Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

These past days have got me really thinking about this ongoing story between Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rachel, Jacob & Esau.

The story got me thinking because of how families first come to be, and that we interpret the world through the relationships and lens of our family.

Many times, family (if it’s working properly) can be a blessing.

Other times, family can be a curse that never seems to go away. I imagine this is the way it seemed for Jacob, knowing that his brother was sure to kill him for his trickery.

In it all, God shakes God’s head, and keeps on working with us, even with all our failures and weaknesses.

Will humanity ever begin to rise above itself, and see all human beings as brothers and sisters? (Perhaps, through . . . Jesus?)
