You can’t help but feel pain for Esau when you hear his voice calling to his father: “Please, father! Bless me, too!”

Isaac doesn’t bless him, but instead leaves him a prediction, that he will become a servant of his brother.

It makes me wonder, did this really happen? Probably not. What’s more likely is the story is an origin story of peoples. It was for ancient Jews to interpret how the different Semitic people came to live in their area.

Still, you can’t help feel sadness for Esau.

What IS real is how difficult it can be for kids who aren’t the “favorite” of their parents. Both our boys are very different in skill level, but in how they see the world. And both my wife and I try to balance and love them both equally for who they are.

Some kids aren’t as lucky though.

How can we become equitable with all our children, so all know they are blessed?
