“Love and marriage, love and marriage, goes together like a horse and carriage…”

Or, in this case, like TWO baby carriages.

So Rebekah becomes pregnant. With twins.

These twins will found two nations. One from the line of Esau, the other from Jacob.

Yes, it’s probably an origin story from ancient Semitic peoples looking to trace their roots. But, perhaps more importantly, even though one side would be blessed and the other, not so blessed, they still would both affect the future of the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ.

It shows, that, once again, God acts through the base societal platform (so-to-speak) of families. God’s promises will come.
