God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’
— Exodus 3:14a

We should all be so sure of ourselves. But, of course, we’re not. God knows who God is, or, as this can also be translated, “I will be what I will be,” God knows what God will be.

Me? I don’t know either. Not who I am, nor who I will be. I’m a human being. A work in progress. Maybe who I am is a constant, something at the core of my being that God intended me to be. But I will spend my lifetime trying to uncover who that person is, and how that person is expressed will change at various stages of my life. Actually, it’s kind of exciting, this digging and revealing, this ongoing conversation with God about who God would have me be and how God will help me along the way. And it’s comforting to know that my guide in life knows exactly who they are and who they will be. No human mentor offers me the constancy and assurance God does. And God’s as excited to watch my grow and change as I am.

What new thing have I discovered about myself recently?
