This echoes the pleas of Abraham for Sodom, and Moses for the people in the wilderness. Once again, God has devastating punishments planned for the people who have turned away from him and behaved in egregiously bad ways. Once again, a human intervenes and begs for mercy on a people who so richly deserve said punishment. And once again, God relents, and scales back God’s anger. God listens to us. Especially, I think, when we come from a place of grace and mercy, showing that maybe we do listen to God after all.

Have I every advocated for someone who deserved punishment? Why?
