Acts 9:36-43, Peter in Lydda and Joppa

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

Peter put all of them outside, and then he knelt down and prayed. He turned to the body and said, ‘Tabitha, get up.’ Then she opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat up. He gave her his hand and helped her up. Then calling the saints and widows, he showed her to be alive.

NL Daily Devotion for Saturday, May 4, 2019

by R. Fergus Moir, Clergy Stuff

The widows had been devastated by Tabitha’s death, because she had been such a generous woman, making clothing for those in need, devoted to good works and acts of charity. When Peter showed up, the widows showed him the clothing her loving and dedicated hands had made. I can think of so many wonderful women in so many churches who reminded me of Tabitha, and I know the grief of having lost some of them over time. They were a beautiful example to me of love and commitment and they have enriched my faith.

Peter’s miracle of raising Tabitha reminds me of the promise that God will raise all of us on the last day, and I will see those old saints again

Who are the Tabithas in my life? How can I show my love and appreciation for them?
