Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today
“‘Give me also this power so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.’ But Peter said to him, ‘May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain God’s gift with money!’”

There are some things money can’t buy. Actually, there are a whole lot of things money can’t buy. All the important things, really. And the most important? The presence of God in my life. I can buy meditation tapes and books, go to a big, fancy church and give lots of money; None of that translates into a rich spirituality or close relationship with God.
All God asks is to have all of me, plain and simple, humble and unencumbered by the trappings of the world. God invites me to be present, to seek to know God more deeply. This costs me nothing, yet is more valuable than all the money in the world.
Gracious God, free me from bondage to worldly goods and cares, that I might be fully present to your Holy Spirit. Amen.
