Acts 27:13-38, The Storm at Sea

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will be exactly as I have been told. But we will have to run aground on some island.”

Faith doesn’t mean life becomes pain free. I know I have found myself in seemingly no-win situations, where no matter what I decided to do, the outcome would involve some level of pain for myself and/or those around me.

Paul has encouraging words for us in those situations. Keep up your courage. Have faith in God that ultimately, we will emerge on the other side of this current storm. It may mean running aground on some island—finding ourselves in unknown territory, experiencing some loss and pain—but that’s preferable to perishing in the storm.

God, protect me in the storms of life, and help me to trust that you hold me in the midst of my pain. Amen.
