Our readings continue this week during the season of Easter, and we’re still in the Book of Acts. Reading all the apostles had done and said, one thing keeps sticking out for me…

Paul and the other disciples never made the message of Jesus complicated. It wasn’t hard to understand. In fact, they told the story of God’s good love in Jesus Christ and often just left it at that!

Usually what we read then is that some people respond to the story, and others do not.

Sometimes we try to make the message of God too difficult, complicating or obfuscating the pure message. But it doesn’t take a mountain of books to tell God’s story. No—it’s often much more simple than that.

Simple messages don’t necessarily equate to simplicity. I believe that God’s message of love is for all, regardless of your intelligence or means to complicate these ancient texts.

Lord, grant me the openness-of-heart to hear your simple message of love. Amen.
