Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today
NL Daily Devotion for Wednesday, June 3, 2020
by Daniel D. Maurer, Clergy Stuff
Peter preached the good news. The Good News (capitalized). It was a pretty quick speech, really. And there was nothing fancy. God gave Jesus Christ the power anointed by the Holy Spirit, Jesus died, and Jesus was raised. You, too, can participate in God’s great story, Peter said.
The Great Story to end all stories!
Sometimes it’s difficult, especially nowadays in the midst of the biggest pandemic the world is experiencing in the last 100 years, to find good news. People are scared. People are dying. People have lost their jobs. The future looks bleak.
In times like these, I think it’s important to go back to the simple, quick story and know that God is not only with us, but, through Jesus, God walks alongside us and will carry us through. This, too, shall end — things will get better. But things will also be getting worse. The end will come, though, and the one waiting for us at the other side is the one who has been walking alongside of us the whole time.
God, thank you for standing by me. Help me to remember your simple, great story, that you would never abandon me. Amen.
