2 Kings 19:20-34, Isaiah Brings an Answer to Hezekiah’s Prayer

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

This is the word that the Lord has spoken concerning him: She despises you, she scorns you— virgin daughter Zion; she tosses her head—behind your back, daughter Jerusalem. Whom have you mocked and reviled?

As you can read from the text above from 2 Kings 19, answers to prayers aren’t always something we either expect or want to necessarily hear.

God’s voice, I believe comes through many mediums. I think that you may have also experienced God’s voice in this way.

Sometimes, God speaks to us through other people. Sometimes, we perceive only silence. Sometimes, we notice something much later on in life that reminds us that, O yes! We did indeed ask God for guidance or send out a plea for help.

Prayer is change. It is the work of the faithful, knowing that we are not incanting a magical formula for “success” or instant relief. I believe that is why prayer, nowadays, may be such a difficult thing to undertake—today, we expect instant results.

But, the work of the faithful will go on.

How do you pray? What do you expect will change through prayer?
